We have been pretty lazy since being in India because it is just ridiculously hot (40+ degrees almost every day). After a week in Varanasi, we caught a sleeper train to Agra, where the Taj Mahal is located. We met some pretty cool people on the train: Ziade from Paris, France and Jen from Ohio, USA. We pretty much hung out with them the whole time in Agra which was fun. Z is an expert on India (and many other countries) so it was great to have him with us! We only stayed in Agra for one night as there wasn’t a whole lot to do apart from seeing the Taj Mahal.

The guesthouse we stayed at had a rooftop restaurant with the view of the Taj Mahal, which looked so beautiful. I kept picturing the movie Aladdin in my head. You know the scenes where he’s looking at the palace that Jasmine lives in? Well, that’s what it felt like. I just needed Abu on my shoulders.

We left early the next morning to beat the rush and be there for the sunrise. Unfortunately because we are poor travellers and paid US$10 for the entry fee (much cheaper if you are Indian), we didn’t hire a guide. When we got inside the gates and had our first glimpse of the building, a sense of disbelief came over us. We were discussing with each other that it’s weird because we see photos of this place, but we never thought we’d actually be here. We were in complete awe of this building that is completely made from marble. We definitely recommend visiting this place. Another one ticked off the bucket list!
