We flew into Luang Prabang, Laos, a couple days ago now and have enjoyed the relaxed, slow paced way of life here. Sort of reminiscent of Siem Reap in Cambodia but not as busy.
Everyone who has travelled around South East Asia would have been to MANY night markets and what we’ve found throughout Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam is that they have mostly been quite similar. The hippy pants, shirts, flop flops and many souvenirs. It was so nice to explore the markets in Luang Prabang as they offer more variety! You can still buy some hippy pants if you want some, but there are beautiful handmade cushion covers (I wish I could buy some), vibrant and colourful scarves and throws and cute little lamp shades. We have seen so many cute handmade baby clothes and shoes for Kel’s little nephew so it’s a shame we are limited to our backpacks!
Kel has a cold so we haven’t been up to too much, so this sleepy town has been a hot but perfect little resting place. We did get up to one major thing though – checking out the Kwang Si Waterfalls! They were about 30 km out of town so we rented a scooter and made our way early in the morning to avoid the crowds. We were pretty amazed at how large they were especially as it’s the end of the dry season! We walked up to the top of the waterfall and climbed down a bit so we could get under the full force of it and it was amazing! The water was absolutely freezing but it felt refreshing going under. At the bottom of the waterfall there are pools you can swim in, as other pools are sacred to the Laotian people. We also experienced a free pedicure! Little fish that were in the water came and bit the dead skin off of your feet and legs. They have fish spa’s all over South East Asia so it was nice to experience it for free – a squirmy experience!
Tomorrow, we head to Vang Vieng before making our way to Vientiane.

I agree the night market in Luang Prabang is much better than other markets! it’s just such a tease being there and not being able to buy anything. We were a little sick too when we were in Luang Prabang, it’s definitely a nice place to rest up! Hope you feel better soon.
